Our Story

We created Uplift Communities to provide insight on things we did not know growing up and when we first started our businesses. Our goal is to give our participants an advantage in becoming successful through education and training on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, life skills and college and career readiness.

A few of our clients: Queens Public Library, Department of Homelessness, Riker’s Island, The Young Women's Leadership School of Brooklyn, Queensboro Correctional Facility, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, The Borough of Manhattan Community College, Bronx River High School, High School of Fashion Industries, Fordham Leadership Academy, The New York Chapter of the National Black MBA Association, The Gentlemen’s Factory, Groomed Success, and The Boy’s Room.

We have been intentional in hiring people who are passionate about helping others succeed. Our key component in hiring our team is that they did this before we started paying them. We have screened assembled and hired an Allstar team of individuals who are passionate about training your people. A few of our amazing facilitators who make Uplift Communities are below:

 

Achumboro Ataande, Esq., Partner.

Achumboro Ataande is a 4x entrepreneur and investor. He is a licensed lawyer, angel investor, and owns a marketing and branding company based in NYC. Prior to Uplift Communities, Achumboro volunteered his time in advising 70 business owners bimonthly and speaking to various groups of teenagers.

Julius Caranda, MPA, Partner

Julius Caranda is an adjunct professor at BMCC. He has worked in banking, public policy, and cyber security. Prior to Uplift Communities Julius gave his time back by speaking to students and mentoring.

Umaru Barrie, M.D. PhD

Umaru Barrie is in the 4th year of his MD PhD program at the University of Texas. He has been invited to speak at countless events and was co-president of the medical students association.

Umaru has helped dozens of black and brown students gain admittance to medical school and secure scholarships.

Jasmine Santiago, LPC

Jasmine is the owner of a private practice called Therapy for the culture. She is a licensed professional counselor based in NJ. Jasmine is a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).

Jasmine brings expertise in the field of life skills, college and career development and overcoming mental and emotional hurdles. Jasmine is currently writing her dissertation for her PhD.
